BACHELOR OF MUSIC 70TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

07 May 2019

The Music Department at Queen’s University is tuning up for a big reunion event in June – to celebrate the 70th birthday of the world-class BMus degree.

Proceedings will kick off with drinks in the McMordie Hall from 6.30pm to be followed by dinner in the Harty Room – with its a splendid hammer-beam vaulted roof, beautiful oak beams and a stunning stained glass window – from 7.30pm.

VIP guest speakers are also being lined up and there’ll be plenty of time to reminisce for what promises to be a major evening of celebration.

Graduates from the last 70 years are invited to purchase a ticket for the reunion event on Saturday 29th June from 6.30pm in the School of Music Building on the main campus on University Road. Dress code is Black tie / semi-formal and a limited number of tickets are still available from Eventbrite.

Alumni from the classes of 1974, 1976, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2013, 2015 and 2018 have already signed up! If your graduating year isn't listed, you’ll probably know someone in the year above or below, so come along for a great night of catching up!

The organisers are keen to hear what graduates have been up to over the last 70 years. They would also welcome anyone who has an interesting story – or an unusual career path – or old photographs from ‘back in the day’ to get in touch (with Krista Gallagher) to share them with guests on the night.

If you cannot attend but wish to send photographs of your time at Queen’s Music for a slide show to be displayed during the evening please forward them to Krista.

The evening will be an opportunity to catch up on the latest musical developments at Queen’s. There might even be a chance to look around at the state-of-the-art practice rooms and recording and composition studios and the beautiful concert spaces available.

The Harty Room at Queen’s is one of the University’s most prestigious buildings where regular lunchtime recitals and evening concerts take place. It is also the main rehearsal space for choirs and orchestras at Queen’s.
