Eversheds Sutherland, a top global law practice with offices in Belfast and Dublin, has launched a student prize in partnership with the School of Law in Queen’s University Belfast.

Running for three years, the Eversheds Sutherland Prize will be awarded to the student enrolled on the LLM International Business Law (including Placement) who achieved the highest overall mark in their undergraduate degree.

In thanking Eversheds Sutherland for its support, Professor Robin Hickey, Head of the School of Law (pictured left above), said: “We are very grateful to Eversheds Sutherland for this generous student prize, especially as it highlights the abilities and talents of our Postgraduate students.

“The LLM in International Business Law is a perfect example of how postgraduate study encourages specialist skills and knowledge, and further prepares our students for roles in a global economy.

“The addition of a dedicated placement period further enhances the student experience and career prospects and so our links with industry are very important to us.”

Alongside the prize, the recipient will be guaranteed an interview for the Eversheds Sutherland Summer Internship Programme.

The inaugural winner Gary Simpson (above centre) said: “I feel very privileged to be the first recipient of the Eversheds Sutherland Prize. The support of Eversheds has been very encouraging and has further endorsed my decision to study the LLM in International Business Law.”

Eversheds Sutherland is Ireland’s only full service international law firm handling legal matters in every major trading nation for domestic and international clients. As a global top 15 law practice, it provides legal advice and solutions to an international client base ranging from small and mid-sized businesses to the largest multinationals.

Matthew Howse (above right), Partner in Eversheds Sutherland Belfast Office, said: “We are delighted to support the Eversheds Sutherland Prize. Eversheds Sutherland is a law firm that is connected globally but also committed locally.

“Part of that local commitment to Northern Ireland is helping to grow and nurture the emerging legal talent of the future.

“On behalf of Eversheds Sutherland, I would like to congratulate Gary on his excellent performance in his undergraduate degree, and I very much look forward to seeing his career flourish and develop in the future.”

Eversheds Sutherland, which opened its 11th UK office in Belfast in 2015 with six staff members – it now has over 30 working at its city centre premises in Belfast – has 69 offices, across 34 countries worldwide. Clients include 73 of the Fortune 100, 66 of the FTSE 100 and 119 of the Fortune 200.
