Isabella Semple (née Martin), BA (died 16 April 2019, aged 66)

(See full obituary in The Guardian by Isabella’s son Brian on behalf of the family)

Isabella Semple (née Martin) was born on 30 July 1952 to Mary (née Daly), a nurse, and Thomas Martin, a fitter.

She grew up in North Belfast and went to the nearby Dominican College in Fortwilliam, before attending Queen’s where she studied Celtic and History, graduating in 1975. After gaining a teacher training certificate at Aberystwyth University she returned to her former school to teach.

Between graduating and qualifying as a teacher, Isabella met her future husband Jackie Semple, a civil servant. The couple were married in 1978.

Isabella spent her working life at Dominican College primarily as an Irish language and History teacher and, following her retirement in 2011, as a part-time library studies assistant.

Isabella is survived by her husband Jackie and children Laura, Brian, Helen and Paul, by her siblings Michael and Thomas and by her four grandchildren.
