THE GRADUATE 2019 – IS ON ITS WAY!

05 November 2019

The 2019/20 issue of the annual Queen’s magazine for its 140,000 alumni around the world has been published. The Graduate features alumni updates and success stories, showcases news and research from around campus and highlights the achievements of staff and students throughout the last year.

The 2019 publication includes a special interview with Nathalie Trott (pp9-11), who took up post as Director of the Development and Alumni Relations Office over the summer, and who shares her impressions of her first few months in the role.

The impact of the University’s research on society – locally, nationally and internationally – is outlined in the news (pp4-8) and fundraising (pp12-17) sections, while the Talents of All (pp20-22) celebrates the contribution and achievements of some of the University’s top female academics.

Sri Lankan born diversity champion Sheree Atcheson, BEng Computer Science (2013), is unveiled as the 2019/20 First Trust Bank Queen’s Graduate of the Year (pp32-33).

Elsewhere in this year’s bumper 52-page magazine, which has a distinct international flavour, readers can find out about the University’s visit to India in May (pp26-27), learn about graduate volunteering opportunities overseas (pp28-29), and read about the impact and importance of legacy giving across the campus (pp30-31).

There is also a special feature on alumni involvement in the HBO blockbuster series, Game of Thrones (pp48-50).

Commenting on the latest issue, Editor Gerry Power (LLB, 1982) said: “As always, The Graduate provides a comprehensive roundup of life at Queen’s and the impact of our graduates both on campus and around the world.

“In the ever popular Class Notes section (pp36-41), alumni from each of the last six decades share their news, and there’s a special international edition of My Time at Queen’s (pp46-47) featuring graduates from Columbia, India, Spain and Greece.

“Recent achievements and initiatives across the University highlighted in Equality, diversity & inclusivity (pp23-25), indicate just how successfully Queen’s is fostering greater inclusivity for staff and students, and how it is reflecting the world that it seeks to serve.

“And the all-important notice of this year’s Convocation Meeting (p35), completes an extensive look at life at Queen’s – and for our alumni – over the last 12 months.

“Most importantly, however, The Graduate showcases the huge achievements and contributions of Queen’s alumni to Northern Ireland and places further afield,” he added.

The latest issue of The Graduate is currently being mailed to graduates around the world; those who do not receive their personal copy by Friday 15 November (UK/Ireland) or Friday 29 November (elsewhere) should contact alumni@qub.ac.uk.
