Dr John Spencer Jeremiah, MB BCh BAO (Died 19 July 2018, aged 87)

A native of Swansea, Wales John was born on 10 September 1930 and passed away on 19 July 2018, aged 87.

 

A Queen’s medical graduate in 1954, Dr Jeremiah interned at Belfast City Hospital and immigrated to Virginia, USA in 1956. He first worked at Central State Hospital in Petersburg, Virginia for a short period before moving to Southwest Roanoke County, Virginia. He established himself in general practice for 11 years.  For close to 30 years he was at the emergency room of Lewis Gale Clinic, in Roanoke and Salem, Virginia.

 

Dr Jeremiah was a member of the Roanoke Academy of Medicine and The American College of Emergency Physicians. In his career he was on the staff of Community Hospital, Roanoke Memorial, Burrell and Lewis Gale Hospital. His whole life was dedicated to the practice of medicine.

 

Before embarking to the USA, John married Una Johnston from Finaghy, Belfast, a Royal Victoria Hospital Registered Nurse that he had met when both were students. Their marriage lasted 62 years until his death. The family all still reside in the USA.
