A new magazine has launched for Queen’s University alumni, keeping them connected with their alma mater wherever they are in the world.

Named Lanyon, after the iconic building on University Road, the magazine will be published twice a year and is packed with University and alumni news, in-depth features and challenging opinion from the heart of our campus. It also shows how Queen’s is leading the world in research and discovery.

From traybakes with Honorary Graduate Carl Frampton to gravitational waves with Professor Stephen Smartt, Issue One features headline-making news, as well as shining the spotlight on lesser-known discoveries that we think deserve to be shouted about as well, such as Professor Caroline Malone’s work on neolithic civilisations in Malta.

It is also not afraid to ask the hard questions, debating issues such as the difference greenways will make to our society, or what the impact of funding cuts will be for Northern Ireland’s universities.

And for those who remember their uni days with a fondness for the extra-curricular, we have special behind-the-scenes access to the SWOT fashion show, a recreation of the 1974 Ladies Boat Club team, and events and society listings that will help alumni stay in touch.

Nathalie Trott, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, believes the magazine is the perfect way for people to keep engaged with Queen’s, from when they graduate to all the way through their lives.

She said: “We want to keep in touch with alumni so they can continue to benefit from the Queen’s relationship long after they have graduated. By providing networks that are active and engaged, and by sharing the world-class research that is coming out of Queen’s, we want graduates to know that a degree from Queen’s lasts a lifetime.

“Lanyon magazine is our flagship publication through which we can tell these stories and continue these connections, and I am so excited to see it launched.”

Issue One is being delivered from Tuesday 11 October to all alumni who receive postal communications from the Development and Alumni Relations team.

If you are a Queen’s graduate and want to be on the address list for future editions, you can update your details here: www.qub.ac.uk/alumni/Lanyon.
