NEW YORK GRADUATE RECEPTION AND KEYNOTE TALK

The President of the Friends of The Queen's University Belfast Inc., John O'Donoghue (BSc Econ, 1981), invites graduates of the University and their guests to an exclusive talk and networking event supported by 4c Executive at the Union League Club on 38 East 37th Street in New York, NY 10016.

This event will take place at 6.00pm on Thursday, 30 November 2017.

The evening includes an address by Professor Richard English, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of Queen’s University Belfast entitled "Twenty-First Century Terrorism: How Should We Respond?"

A leading Irish and British History and Politics academic Professor English joined Queen's in June 2016 as PVC for Internationalisation and Engagement. He is a Distinguished Professorial Fellow in the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice at Queen's.

Born in Belfast in 1963, Richard English read Modern History at Keble College, Oxford (MA, 1985) and studied for his PhD with Professor Charles Townshend at Keele University (1990). He is a frequent media commentator on terrorism and Irish politics and history including work for the BBC, NPR, the Times Literary Supplement, Newsweek, and the Financial Times.

He is also the author of seven books, including Armed Struggle: The History of the IRA (2003), which won the politics book of the year award from the Political Studies Association and Irish Freedom: The History of Nationalism in Ireland (2006), which won the Ewart-Biggs Memorial Prize in 2007.

A drinks reception and light finger buffet will precede his address.

This free event is expected to be popular so those wishing to attend are advised to reserve their place(s) by emailing alumni@qub.ac.uk as soon as possible as these will be allocated on a ‘first-come’ basis.

The Union League Club is located on the corner of 37th Street and Park Avenue. It is home to a distinguished art collection, a library, sports and fitness facilities, fine dining and catering, conference rooms and a gallery of art.

Friends of The Queen's University of Belfast, Inc. is an independent non-profit 510(c) (3) organisation that supports Queen's. It is run by a board of volunteers - some are graduates of the University, while others are friends of Queen's and Northern Ireland.
