Dr Mark Garrett PhD Chemistry 1999 (died on 25 April 2016, aged 42)

Dr Mark Garrett died in the Marie Curie Hospice as a result of cancer on Monday 25 April 2016.

Mark moved from Cork to Belfast in 1995 to study for a PhD in chemistry and graduated in 1999. He took up a post as research chemist in Norbrook Laboratories where he worked for 8 years. He then returned to Queen’s to work as a research fellow in the Chemistry Department in the David Kerr building. In recent years he worked in MOF Technologies Ltd. 

As well as his love for Chemistry Mark also had a great love for sport especially rowing and Gaelic games. He met his wife, Sheila, at Queen’s Rowing Club and was an active member at Belfast Rowing Club. 

Mark was dedicated to developing sporting skills in young people and coached in hurling, football and rowing. He was also a scout leader.

Devoted to his family Mark is greatly missed by his wife Sheila and two children Ciara and Ronan.
