Tackling the global food crisis - register now for Queen's next MOOC

13 October 2014

Queen’s third MOOC - Massive Open Online Course – goes live in November!

The 5-week course - Tackling the Global Food Crisis: Supply Chain Integrity - aims to provide advanced knowledge of food safety and food security across different levels of the supply chain. It will also focus on the pathway to enhance global food security for a sustainable future.

The challenges for food security in tracing and detecting contamination, whether by accident or as a result of fraud, are a high priority. Queen’s Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS), is leading the way in tackling the myriad of issues surrounding food production and delivery.

Humanity faces a major problem in maintaining and enhancing food supplies on a global basis, while at the same time improving individual wellbeing in both the developing and developed world.

In addition, obesity and other problems related to dietary excess pose huge economic and health implications. And with increasing population and climate change threatening existing food supplies, new challenges will need to be overcome to maintain supplies in a healthy and sustainable manner.

The MOOC will cover topics including: food fraud and integrity, soil quality, plant health and climate change.

This is the third free MOOC offered by Queen’s this year. Over 8,000 people enrolled for the first course - in Critical Listening for Studio Production - in January. A second MOOC - Identity, conflict and public space: contest and transformation – was equally successful when offered in April.
