Queen’s alumni in London have been a vital part of its global community for 100 years and are now central to promoting the continued success of the University, guests at an Irish Embassy celebration have heard.

Ireland’s UK Ambassador Martin Fraser hosted the event to mark the centenary of Queen’s University Association London (QUAL).
Members of the 300-strong association, including its president Sean Rainey, were joined by community and political leaders, together with representatives of Queen’s.

Professor Nola Hewitt-Dundas, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, told guests that the gathering marked a ‘special milestone’ which celebrated Queen’s past, but also looked to the future.

“This year marks a very special milestone as you celebrate 100 years of QUAL,” Professor Hewitt-Dundas said.

“Your support for alumni here in London and keeping that connection to your alma mater is very much valued and appreciated. The association provides an excellent social network for Queen’s alumni in the region and is part of a world-wide alumni network that spans 120 countries, who all ensure that our global community of graduates retain a lifelong affinity to the University.

“I want to thank you all for your great work over the years, and the work you continue to do.”

Professor Hewitt-Dundas updated the event on success in promoting Queen’s international reputation.

Queen’s is in the Top 200 universities in the world, ranked 18th for international outlook and 15th in the UK for graduate prospects.

“Our researchers use world-class facilities to help tackle major challenges - locally and globally, changing lives for the better.”

Queen’s University Association London members at the event included Andrew Coppel CBE and June Coppel  of the QUAL Council, as well as QUAL Vice-President David Tubman.
