Mitchell Scholars reunite to celebrate 25 years of the Mitchell Scholarship Programme

Queen’s alumni from across the United States gathered for a reunion event held at the university to continue the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the Mitchell Scholarship Programme.
The George J. Mitchell Scholarship Programme is an international, competitive scholarship sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. It is named to honour former US Senator George Mitchell's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process.
The scholars had the opportunity to network over breakfast with academic staff from Queen's University. Professor Margaret Topping Pro-Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement) welcomed them to the event:
“I was delighted to join the Queen’s and Mitchell Scholar alumni, to continue the 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Mitchell Scholarship Programme. Over the past 25 years, our Mitchell Scholar students have provided tremendous value to the University and as we continue to embark on our North America strategy, having these graduates as global advocates of the University across the United States helps us achieve some of the core ambitions of Queen’s Strategy 2030. North America is an important part of our Strategy 2030 ambition, and we look forward to fostering our relationship with the US-Ireland Alliance and welcoming Mitchell Scholars to Queen’s for years to come.”
The scholars also received a tour of One Elmwood, the new state-of-the-art-building, hosting student services at Queen’s. The event concluded with photographs at the Senator Mitchell bust, providing a significant opportunity for the scholars to honour the person their scholarship is named after.

“We were delighted to welcome some of our Queen’s and Mitchell Scholar alumni on campus to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Mitchell Scholarship Programme. The event reunited students from across the United Sates, to reminisce about their time here at Queen’s and to celebrate the wonderful work of the scholarship programme. We are grateful to have them as Queen’s alumni in the US, as they are strong and enthusiastic ambassadors for the University. We look forward to welcoming more scholars to Belfast in the future.”
