QUAL Tees off Once Again for the President's Cup

Tuesday 20 June 2023

Members of Queen's University Association, London (QUAL) were pleased to return to the course for the 2023 edition of the QUAL President’s Cup.

The sun was shining, and the skies were blue for the association’s annual golf event, which took place on Wednesday 31 May. The group were glad to gather again at the fairways and greens of Beaconsfield Golf Club, Buckinghamshire.

It was a pleasure to welcome again football legend and Queen’s Honorary Graduate Martin O’Neill as a guest. The Guest prizes were keenly contested, but in the end, Don Smith triumphed with 34 points. Not far behind was former Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Celtic manager, Martin O’Neill with 32 points.

For the main prizes, first place went to John Kelly, scoring 41 points. John was delighted to win the trophy for the first time in 25 years of competing and it’s a fitting reward for the many years of organisation he’s put into the event. He paid tribute to the new World Handicap System which made it possible!

Jonny Bramley, QUAL Event Organiser said:
“The weather was kind and Beaconsfield Golf Club was in superb condition, lending itself to some excellent scoring. It was great to see so many new faces playing today, especially Daniel Patton who came over from Queen's University Belfast to represent the Development and Alumni Relations Office.”

Daniel Patton, Development & Engagement Manager, Development and Alumni Relations Office said:
“I was delighted to attend the QUAL golf day at the wonderful Beaconsfield Golf Club. It was great to see alumni and guests join for a great day’s golf and craic. Special thanks to Jonny Bramley for his excellent organisation and for the hospitality of all participants. I’m looking forward to the Centenary running next year!”

QUAL would like to thank Jonny Bramley for organising the event this year, and John Kelly for his support in organising the event during previous years.

Plans for 2024 are already underway and the next QUAL President’s Cup is to take place on Wednesday 29 May 2024 at Beaconsfield Golf Club, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the trophy. QUAL hope to see some familiar faces again next year and would also encourage new members to come along.

QUAL provides a point of contact for Queen's graduates who live, work, or pass through the southeast of England on a regular basis. Social and educational events aim to develop new networks and strengthen old friendships.
