ENGINEERING GRADUATE APPOINTED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF INSURANCE IRELAND

A Queen’s graduate who has been responsible for the National Car Testing Service, Driver Testing Service, National Driver Licensing Service, and Commercial Road Worthiness Testing in Ireland for the last six years, is set to become Chief Executive of Insurance Ireland.

Originally from Newry in County Down, Moyagh Murdock qualified with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering in 1988 from Queen’s. She also holds an MBA from Dublin City University (2012) and a Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Transport Operations Management.

Ms Murdock is currently Chief Executive of the Irish state agency, the Road Safety Authority (RSA), and will take over at the insurance industry group at the end of March.

Commenting on the appointment the President of Insurance Ireland Ann Kelleher said: “The Board of Insurance Ireland is delighted with the appointment of Moyagh Murdock as Chief Executive of Insurance Ireland.   

“In her current role Moyagh has developed and successfully implemented the current RSA 5-year Corporate Plan 2016 to 2020, delivering tangible organisational change and introducing a programme of process improvements that embed Operational Excellence across a broad spectrum of services. 

“She will bring a fresh perspective to her role in Insurance Ireland, with a particular focus on the Irish consumer. Moyagh was selected following a very competitive selection process and demonstrated an enthusiasm and vision for the sector focused on its various stakeholders.”

Prior to her role at RSA Ms Murdock was Chief Operating Officer for Bus Eireann where she had responsibility for Road Passenger Operations, Schools Transport and Information Technology and Business Systems. During her career she also worked at Bombardier, Aer Lingus and Caterpillar.

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Murdock said: “I am delighted to be appointed as Chief Executive of Insurance Ireland.

This is a challenging time for consumers and insurance providers and I look forward to engaging with stakeholders and to working collaboratively with them to ensure we implement changes which will provide a stable and well underpinned sector which delivers effectively for all of its customers.” 

Insurance Ireland represents almost 130 companies, employing around 28,000 people directly and indirectly, across the Irish general insurance, health insurance, life assurance, reinsurance and captive management sectors.

It represents members’ interests to Government, state agencies, regulatory bodies, public representatives, interest groups, the media and the general public. Insurance Ireland also speaks for members at a European level, particularly via Insurance Europe, the European association for national representative bodies, and at a global level via the Global Federation of Insurance Associations.
