calling QUEEN’S GRADUATES – FANCY A GREAT NIGHT's craic IN LONDON?

02 October 2019

The President Sean Rainey and members of Council of QUAL, the Queen’s University Association, London, have great pleasure in inviting graduates and their guests to the Association’s Annual Gala Dinner in The Royal Thames Yacht Club in central London on Wednesday, 6 November 2019.

Guest speaker at the annual Black Tie Dinner (which starts at 7pm) is the Rt. Hon. Arlene Foster, leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, former First Minister and an LLB (1993) graduate of the University. Guests will also be joined by Queen’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Greer, for his first QUAL event since assuming office in 2018.

The Dinner is open to all Queen’s alumni and their guests, and is primarily an opportunity to meet in wonderful surroundings and to network with fellow alumni. Members of QUAL (join the Association here) enjoy reduced rates for this and other Association events.

Speaking about the event Queen's Alumni Relations Officer, Natasha Sharma, said: "The QUAL Annual Dinner is one of the top alumni events of the year - a great excuse to get glammed up, a wonderful chance to renew acquaintances with old friends and to make new ones, and an important opportunity for graduates to hear the latest news from their alma mater.

"QUAL is an important point of reference for the many hundreds of Queen's graduates who follow a career path to London each year after graduation, and the Annual Dinner is the first occasion for many to meet up after moving away from Belfast. Tickets always sell out fast, so don't delay - book today!"

Arlene Foster has been involved in politics since she was a student at Queen’s. A lawyer by profession, she was born and brought up in South East Fermanagh and still lives in the county with her husband and three children.

She joined the DUP in 2004, since when she has been a senior representative of the party. Arlene was elected leader of the party in December 2015 following the retirement of Peter Robinson. She was the First Minister of Northern Ireland from 2016 to 2017 and remains one of the highest profile politicians in Northern Ireland.

A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Professor Greer was appointed Dean of the Hull York Medical School before moving to the University of Liverpool in 2010 where he was Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences and Provost for Research from 2013. He joined the University of Manchester in 2015, where he was Vice-President and Dean of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health.

Since his arrival at Queen’s in August 2018, Professor Greer has been closely involved in the Belfast Region City Deal and with stakeholders keen to promote education, research and investment across Northern Ireland.
