‘NEW LOOK’ ISSUE OF THE GRADUATE IS ON ITS WAY!  Cover and inside pages from The Graduate 2020-21

06 October 2020

The 2020/21 issue of The Graduate – the annual Queen’s magazine for its 140,000 alumni around the world – has been published, with a new look and a renewed focus on University research, graduates and impact.

The Graduate features news from Queen's campus (Round-up), includes details of the Annual Meeting of Convocation, showcases the work of QUBIS in supporting the University’s spinout companies (Commercial Break) and highlights the benefits and events that alumni can expect.

You can also read about some of the University’s most influential graduates of the last 175 years (Leading Lights), find out how Queen’s is exporting its local model for shared education around the world (School of Thought), and learn how graduates and University staff, at home and internationally, are involved in the fight against Covid-19 (First Responders).

Plus in Writer’s Room, My Queen’s and Student Life you'll hear from staff, graduates and students on their experiences of Queen’s.

The 2020 publication also includes reflections from Professor Ian Greer, President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s on the impact of Covid-19 and from Nathalie Trott, Director of Development and Alumni Relations, on the changing world of graduate engagement.

Speaking about the latest issue, Editor Gerry Power (LLB, 1982) said:

“While this year’s issue of The Graduate has had a distinct makeover both in terms of look and content, it is still primarily a celebration of Queen’s and of the immense impact our graduates make at home and around the world.

“Of particular interest will be the extensive look at how individual members of University staff – and a number of graduates – are playing key roles in the battle against the coronavirus.”

Responsible for the new look is the London-based multi-award winning content marketing agency YBM.

Commenting on what it means to be involved in the production of Queen's alumni magazine, Director Mira Katbamna said:

“We’re a London agency with deep roots in Northern Ireland, so it’s been a very personal project for us and we’re thrilled to have worked on this issue.

“We hope readers will notice more in-depth features, a more instinctive structure and a refreshed design, making the magazine easier to read – but no less informative.”

And reflecting on her favourite section within the magazine, Mira added: “We were bowled over by the success of the University's commercialisation team – to beat Oxford, Cambridge and London into a hat is no mean feat!”

The latest issue of The Graduate is currently being mailed to graduates around the world; those who do not receive their personal copy by 30 October (UK) or Friday 20 November (elsewhere) should contact alumni@qub.ac.uk.

Alumni who have lost touch with the University since graduating can update their contact details on-line to ensure that they get future issues, and can email alumni@qub.ac.uk to request a copy of this year’s publication. Alternatively, an online version of the 2020 magazine is available here.

Graduates wishing to stay in touch online should go to https://daro.qub.ac.uk/optin to let Queen’s know their preferences for ongoing contact from the University.
