Dr Henry Coulter Johnston (November 6, 2014 aged 71)

Dr Henry Coulter Johnston, MB BCh BAO 1967, known as "Harry" to his friends, passed away on Thursday November 6, 2014 at the age of 71.  

Harry was born to William and Margaret Johnston (deceased) in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he attended Queen's University. He graduated from its medical school in 1967 and qualified as an anaesthesiologist by 1972. He moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, USA in 1973 to work at the University of Cincinnati, where he spent the next 35 years in the anaesthesia department.  He was an esteemed member of the Ohio Society of Anaesthesiologists and President from 1998-99.

He loved to travel, visiting many interesting places such as Argentina, Antarctica, India, and China. His visits to Africa were his most memorable, returning many times to photograph wildlife, and also help several medical centres there with supplies and training. The pictures and stories of his travels were one of his favourite things to share with family and friends.

Dr Johnston was a devoted father and grandfather always enjoying time spent with his family. He is survived by his 2 sons, Alan of North Carolina and Brian of Ohio, his granddaughter Tara, his sister Elizabeth Barton of England and his 3 nephews - David, Ian, and Michael.
