Members of QUAL (Queen's University Association, London) were pleased to return to the course for the 2022 edition of the QUAL President’s Cup.

The association’s annual golf event took place on the sunny Monday morning of May 18. The small but enthusiastic group were glad to get back to the fairways and greens of Beaconsfield Golf Club, Buckinghamshire, after the 2021 event was called off due to the pandemic.

The QUAL and Guest prizes were keenly contested, but in the end Andrew Coppel’s invitee Don Smith triumphed with 39 points. Not far behind was former Republic of Ireland, Sunderland and Celtic manager Martin O’Neill with 37 points.

Honorary Queen’s Graduate O’Neill attended following an invitation from Jonny Bramley, who claimed the main prize and magnificent trophy for a fifth time, with 45 points to Andrew Coppel’s 34 in second place.

Jonny, who has a handicap of 14.7, said : “It wasn’t quite my best-ever round but it came close. Everything just clicked today.”

QUAL would like to thank John Kelly, who has organised the event for a number of years and fellow Beaconsfield member John Campbell for his support on the day.

Plans for 2023 are already underway and the next QUAL President’s Cup scheduled to take place from 10.30am on Wednesday May 31 2023 at Beaconsfield GC. QUAL hope to see a bigger turnout next year and would encourage new members to come along.

QUAL provides a point of contact for Queen's graduates who live, work or pass through the south east of England on a regular basis. Social and educational events aim to develop new networks and strengthen old friendships.
